SEAGOING STANDARDS OF TRAINING, CERTIFICATION, AND WATCHKEEPING (STCW) COURSES

Pre-Sea Marine Engine Mechanic (MEM)

This is a vocational programme that prepares students to work as marine engine mechanics. Students learn about engine room operations and maintenance, the oil and gas industry, and environmental concerns. They also gain technical and mechanical expertise.

Electro Technician Course Rating

This course teaches students the fundamentals of engineering practices and scientific principles, as well as practical skills for working with electrical systems. The programme combines theoretical education and practical training like how to use basic electrical tools and equipment for installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and testing.

Rating for Yatch and Cruise Line

This programme is a valid STCW certification for safe and effective ship operations. There is STCW basic training as according to STCW Regulation V/2, and emphasis is placed on the bundle of four courses titled ” STCW Basic Safety Training Course.”

Ship Steward

This programme trains individuals as ship housekeepers. The training enables the individual to play a key role in maintaining the ship’s cleanliness and providing excellent customer service to the ship’s guests, while also supporting other crew members. Some of the typical duties include but are limited to managing sales, cleaning and sanitizing and resolving customer care.

2nd Cooks / Chief Cook

This programme gives the basics in food preparation, cleaning, and applying food safety standards. They normally will work with the front-of -the house teams to ensure special request are met. Chief Cooks are taught how to manage the kitchen or galley, including overseeing the preparation of rosters, menus, and food orders.

Ordinary Seaman (OS)

The ordinary seaman (OS) programme is a training programme that prepares students to work as entry-level mariners on ships and vessels. OS perform general maintenance and other tasks to assist the deck crew. The OS programme teaches a variety of skills such as deck lookout duties, rope and wire skills, safety procedures, general maintenance, marine pollution, anchor work, personal protective equipment, and emergency procedures.

SEAGOING MANDATORY COURSES

Personal Survival Techniques

A prerequisite for joining the Merchant Navy, this course teaches survival techniques and principles through theory and practical sessions.

Topics include

  • Donning a life jacket
  • Entering water from a height
  • Righting an inverted life raft.

STCW Elementary First Aid

This training program provides seafarers with basic first aid knowledge to respond to medical emergencies at sea. The course aims to teach participants how to take immediate action in the event of an accident or medical emergency at sea. The certificate is valid for five years.

STCW Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting

This is a basic training course for seafarers that covers how to prevent and fight fires on ships. The course entails and teaches how fires are caused, how to reduce the risk of fires on ships, and what to do in the event of a fire on a ship.

STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (PSSR)

This course is a mandatory basic safety training course for seafarers. It provides a basic introduction to safety procedures, accident prevention, and working conditions on board merchant vessels. It encompasses
